Climate: Temperate mid-continent climate, with a gradual transition between four seasons.

Population: 7,498.001 (excludes Kosovo-Metohija), according to the 2002 census.

Capital: Belgrade (Beograd). With a population of 1.6 million, Belgrade is the administrative, economic and cultural centre of Serbia.

Religion: The main religion is Christian Orthodox. Additional religions practiced in Serbia include Islam, Roman Catholic, Protestant, and Judaism.

Government: Democratic Republic. The president and the parliament are elected every four years in a general election.

Banks and Postal Service: Most banks and post offices are open from 08.00 a.m. to 7.00 p.m. on weekdays and from 8.00 a.m. to 3.00 p.m. on Saturdays. A select number of banks and post offices offer their services on Sundays.

Shops: Grocery shops are typically open from 7.00 a.m. to 9.00 p.m. on weekdays and Saturdays. Sunday hours are normally 6.00 a.m. to 3.00 p.m. Shopping centers are open form 9.00 a.m. to 11.00 p.m.

Credit cards: International credit cards, including Visa, Master Card, Diners are accepted in a majority of shops, hotels and restaurants.

Internet: All major hotels offer Internet services to guests. Internet cafes are common in Belgrade. A large number of cafes also provide free WI-FI to customers. Serbia’s Internet country code is .rs.

Electrical appliances: Voltage in Serbia is 220 volts and the frequency is 50 Hz. Electrical sockets have two round prongs, as is the standard across Europe. For 110 volts appliances you will need a converter and adapter plugs.

Food and Drink: The tap water in Belgrade is generally safe to drink. Bottled water is popular and easily available. Serbia is a producer and exporter of high quality mineral water.

Entry requirements/visas:
Citizens of the following countries do not need to obtain visas:

  • citizens of European Union countries, the Swiss Confederation, Kingdom of Norway and Republic of Iceland may enter the Republic of Serbia – using their identity cards and stay up to 90 days.
  • citizens of Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Israel, Macedonia, Montenegro, Russian Federation, Turkey, Argentina, Australia, Bolivia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Costa Rica, Cuba, Japan, Mexico, New Zealand, Republic of Korea, Seychelles, Singapore, Tunisia, United States of America – using their valid passport.

Foreign nationals visiting Serbia who are required to obtain visas need:

  1. Valid Passport;
  2. One of the following: a letter of invitation (verified by the appropriate Serbia authority), an invitation from a company for a business visit, a receipt or authorized tourist company certifying that the travel arrangement has been paid (letter of credit or other payment receipt);
  3. Return ticket;
  4. Proof of sufficient funds in hard currency and
  5. Certificate that a health fund shall cover the medical costs in Serbia, if any.

Cities area

Belgrade – Belgrade is capitol of Serbia situated at the confluence of two big rivers, Danube and Sava rivers. Novi Sad – The second largest city in Serbia. It has all the urban and cultural benefits as Belgrade. Novi Sad earned its nickname Serbian Athens because of the beauty, rich culture and history. It is settled by the Danube, Petrovaradin fortress and mountain Fruška Gora with national park. Novi Sad is also a large industrial and financial centre of the Serbian economy; and it is also one of the biggest construction sites in the region.

Subotica  – The city of Subotica is located at the northern part of the Republic of Serbia, 10km away the Hungary border. It is well known as multicultural and multinational town, where for centuries people are living together in harmony and peace. Subotica is well connected to all European countries concerning good motorways and railways. Being near the airports in Belgrade and Budapest Subotica has also good connection with all the countries worldwide.

Lake area

Lake Palić, Subotica –Lake Palić, a short drive from Subotica, is the largest and most beautiful lake in Vojvodina. Situated by the north border of Serbia, it brings cultural mix of Serbia and Hungary. Palic offers different activities related to the culture, castles, nature, lake, horse stable (ergela) etc.

Mountains area

Zlatibor – At an altitude of just over 1,000 meters, Zlatibor offers cool mountain breezes, warm summer sunshine and gorgeous winter snow drifts. Its location along major routes connecting Serbia and Montenegro make Zlatibor an ideal getaway in any season. What’s more, Zlatibor has successfully hosted a range of national and international conferences.

Kopaonik – Kopaonik, which became a National Park in 1981, is known for its rugged and majestic natural beauty. This mountainous region in southern Serbia abounds with meadows, fir tree forests and plentiful river valleys and springs. Kopaonik, which stretches out across 12,000 hectares of picturesque mountains and valleys, is home to a range of protected flora and fauna. Kopaonik as the roof of Serbia offers the highest peaks in the country and a world class, European-standard ski resort.
